Buying Guide

Manufacturers

There are many manufacturers of BMW bumpers. Some of the companies that make BMW bumpers include: OE BMW, Reiger, Breyton, Hamann, AC Schnitzer, Extreme Dimensions, VIS, and some OE Taiwanese copy cats.

Prices vary greatly among these manufacturers. Generally speaking the German brands - Reiger, Breyton, Hamann, and AC Schnitzer – are the most expensive. These brands are well known in the BMW community. Original BMW bumpers are usually more expensive than the aftermarket ones which mean that buying a different style bumper is a good choice. The brands that offer the best value are the Taiwanese BMW copy bumpers.

Prices

Prices for front bumpers can range anywhere from $250 - $900.

Prices for rear bumpers can range anywhere from $300 - $1,200. Generally speaking the rear bumper has more material making it more expensive.

Price for complete body kits range from $750 - $3,500 – depending on style, material, and brand.

We have found that www.InCarParts.com consistently has the lowest prices in the business. Their customer service is top notch and they actually have a working technical knowledge of the tuning products market.

Styles

By far the most popular tuning style for BMWs is OEM+ with many owners replacing their original bumper with an M bumper. If you want a unique look we suggest using an aftermarket style.

Some owners buy aftermarket bumpers that are copies of the newer generation bumpers, but made so that it fits properly to their older body style. This look is also popular which provides a good look.

Finally, there are custom designed bumpers that were designed to look like not thing else. Extreme Dimensions is a company that offers this style. What ever look you decide to pursue, make sure that you have a final goal of what you want your car to look like once it is finished. This will allow you envision your final product and create a look that is balanced.

Our Recommendations

We have personally tested these aftermarket bumpers on vehicles and this is what we have found:

  • Original Equipment bumpers have excellent fit and finish. However, they are expensive, you cannot return them, and they do not provide a unique look. We have used the Taiwanese OE BMW M copies and we can tell you that they are very, very good. Don’t be afraid of these.
  • The German brands – [Reiger, Breyton, Hamann, and AC Schnitzer] - have excellent fit and finish. They are pricey – but they are absolutely worth it. They provide a unique, high quality look that meshes well with the look of BMWs.
  • The other aftermarket companies generally are average to good quality. You will likely have to have a professional install these bumpers. They might need very slight custom work before they will fit exactly. If installed properly they will give your car a nice and unique look.

We recommend buying from knowledgeable retailer like InCarParts.com. They have all of the above bumpers in stock. They have provided us with parts before and they always do a phenomenal job.
